 The Karlsruhe-based company PI has recently become co-owner of PI miCos GmbH in Eschbach, Germany. This allows PI to supplement its extensive micro- and nanopositioning portfolio with a specialist in the field of vacuum applications and system integration. PI thereby expands its range of fast, high-precision system solutions, especially in the area of micropositioning, with air bearing technology and linear motors, for example. 09/2011
Over the last four decades, the Karlsruhe-based company has become the leading manufacturer of nanopositioning technology. PI is a private company with healthy growth, more than 600 employees world-wide and a flexible, vertically integrated organization which enables PI to fulfill almost any request in the field of innovative precision positioning technology. All key technologies are developed in-house. This means that every phase from the design right down to the shipment can be controlled: The precision mechanics and the electronics as well as the position sensors and the piezo ceramics or actuators. The latter are produced by the subsidiary company PI Ceramic. PI has its own sales and service offices at eight important business locations. Moreover, the company maintains testing devices for nanometrology on three continents. PI Shanghai and PI USA have additional development and manufacturing resources which allow rapid local reaction to custom-engineered specifications.

Die DPG verpflichtet sich und ihre Mitglieder, für Freiheit, Toleranz, Wahrhaftigkeit und Würde in der Wissenschaft einzutreten und sich dessen bewußt zu sein, daß die in der Wissenschaft Tätigen für die Gestaltung des gesamten menschlichen Lebens in besonders hohem Maße verantwortlich sind.

Mit dem Ziel "Stärken stärken" wurde im Juli 2000 der gemeinnützige Verein Photonics BW e.V. zur Förderung der Optischen Technologien in Baden-Württemberg gegründet. In den folgenden Jahren von 2001 bis 2009 hat sich Photonics BW mit Förderung durch das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) zu dem Kompetenznetz für Optische Technologien in Baden-Württemberg entwickelt. Photonics BW vereint heute über 60 Mitglieder aus Industrie, KMU, Start-Ups, Forschung sowie Banken und Beratungseinrichtungen. |

Statement of Purpose SPIE is an international society advancing an interdisciplinary approach to the science and application of light.
About the Society SPIE is the international society for optics and photonics founded in 1955 to advance light-based technologies. Serving approximately 180,000 constituents from more than 170 countries, the Society advances emerging technologies through interdisciplinary information exchange, continuing education, publications, patent precedent, and career and professional growth.
SPIE annually organizes and sponsors approximately 25 major technical forums, exhibitions, and education programs in North America, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific.
In 2010, the Society provided more than $2.3 million in support of scholarships, grants, and other education programs around the world.
SPIE publishes the SPIE Digital Library, containing more than 313,000 research papers from the Proceedings of SPIE and the Society's 9 scholarly journals with around 18,000 new papers added each year, and more than 120 eBooks from the SPIE Press catalog. The SPIE Press publishes print monographs, tutorial texts, Field Guides, and reference books. SPIE also publishes a wide variety of open access content.
Membership includes Fellows and Senior Member programs. The Society has named more than 900 SPIE members as Fellows since 1955, and implemented its Senior Member program in 2008. Die MECHATRONIC KARLSRUHE ist die Plattform, auf der sich Entscheidungsträger über die Entwurfsmethoden und Werkzeuge für die Entwicklung mechatronischer Lösungen austauschen. Sie bietet die Basis für Wissensvermittlung und praxisorientierte Lösungsansätze. Die Darstellung von Innovationspotenzial war und ist das zentrale Anliegen der Veranstaltung und Grundlage darauf aufbauender Geschäftsmöglichkeiten. Den Schwerpunkt der MECHATRONIC KARLSRUHE bildet in diesem Jahr die anwendernahe Konferenz, die von einer Fachausstellung begleitet wird.
